Foster Care Aware: Bringing Families Together for a Cause That Matters

By May 6, 2025Uncategorized

May is National Foster Care Awareness Month, and there’s no better way to honor it than by coming together as a community to celebrate, support, and learn about foster care. That’s why we’re inviting you to Foster Care Aware—a joyful family event with a powerful purpose.

Join us on Saturday, May 17 from 10 AM to 3:30 PM at ODU Kaufman Mall for a day filled with fun, food, and meaningful engagement. You’ll find everything from bounce houses and balloon twists to face painting, a petting zoo, and raffles. And yes—there will be popcorn and cotton candy, because no family day is complete without them!

But this isn’t just about having fun (though there will be plenty of it!). It’s also about raising awareness for the thousands of children in Virginia’s foster care system. Foster Care Aware offers an opportunity to learn more about how you can get involved—whether as a foster parent, mentor, volunteer, or advocate.

You’ll also hear stories of impact and resilience, discover the many ways our community supports youth in care, and leave inspired by the difference we can make—together.

Admission is free, and we’ll even provide a boxed lunch to keep your energy up. Just be sure to register in advance at FosterCareAware.org to reserve yours!

Whether you’re curious, committed, or just looking for a fun day out with your family, Foster Care Aware is a celebration you don’t want to miss.
