ROB MCCARTNEY

Director

Rob is CEO of The Barry Robinson Center and has a Master of Social Work from Michigan State. He specializes in behavioral health and has led transformative work in military-connected youth care. Rob brings a trauma-informed, child-first mindset to TFFC.

What Rob says inspired him to join the TFFC board:

I have been a social worker for over 40 years, working with youth in a variety of settings as a clinician and as a leader. My journey started by working for the probate court in a detention center and in a group home, where the majority of youth were in foster care. I grew to appreciate the impact a caring and engaged adult could have in their lives. This was followed by my first job as a Case Worker with an MSW for an Intensive Foster Care program. As part of a private practice, my focus was working with foster youth and parents working to reunify their families. When my professional path turned to leading a behavioral health agency, I had the opportunity to work with not only foster youth and their families, but also with foster parents. I believe that Foster Parents help level the playing field for youth allowing them the opportunity to be successful.

Today, I am the CEO of The James Barry-Robinson Institute, which has been providing foster care in Hampton Roads for over 28 years. Being a member of the TFFC board of directors affords me the opportunity to share my clinical and business experience with an organization that is making a difference.
